Veterinarian, Author and Creator
Unpretentious, eminently readable Contemporary and Historical Fiction and Nonfiction… by a horse vet!
Author Elizabeth Thompson DVM, MANZCVS, GradDipTeach is a 1988 U.C. Davis Veterinary School graduate and equine veterinarian with postgraduate qualification in equine dentistry. Dr Thompson’s referral veterinary dental practice comprises tricky dentistry on horses, ponies, minis, donkeys, zebras, white rhinos, and alpacas; along with teaching equine dentistry to veterinarians. Her veterinary journal articles are multiply awarded. She also writes awarded historical and veterinary fiction under the pseudonym Lizzi Tremayne. With an emphasis on the safety of horses, handlers and vets, Dr Thompson has designed Equi-Still Portable Equine Stocks and markets them around the world.
In addition to her veterinary nonfiction, Modern Equine Dentistry for Horse Owners, Lizzi writes about the Old West, Tsarist Russia, Georgian Scotland, and Colonial New Zealand, as well as veterinary fiction—all with a horsey flair—and has three historical fiction novels, three contemporary veterinary fiction novels and over thirty veterinary nonfiction articles published to date.
You might see the name “Lizzi Tremayne” here and there… it’s a writing pseudonym of Elizabeth (Lizzi) Thompson. She grew up riding wild in the Santa Cruz Mountain redwoods, became an equine veterinarian at UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, and practiced in the California Pony Express and Gold Country before emigrating to New Zealand. There, she’s practiced equine medicine and surgery and attained a membership by examination in the ANZCVS in equine dentistry, a graduate diploma of teaching from Waikato University in secondary sciences (it’s a long story…), and IVAS veterinary acupuncture certification. She’s written for many horse magazines and veterinary journals over her nearly 30 years in practice.
Lizzi has two wonderful, grown-up boys, a brilliant grandson, and an awesome partner in this sea of green. When she’s not writing, she’s swinging a rapier or shooting a bow in medieval garb, riding, driving a carriage or playing on her hobby farm, singing, or working as an equine veterinarian. Her books are sold around the world in ebook, print, and some in large print formats.
